Our first time skiing. Instructors were friendly and helpful. Much less crowded than the other lodges. Fewer trails but plenty for getting started.

Eagle Lodge has truly come into its own and now stands out as one of the most desirable base areas on the mountain. It offers arguably the best ski-in/ski-out access at Mammoth, anchored by an excellent collection of hotels, resorts, and condominiums that make getting on and off the slopes effortless. For those who skied Mammoth in the 1980s, it is remarkable how much this area has evolved. Back then, this side of the mountain was largely an afterthought. Today, it is not only relevant—it is central to the Mammoth experience, combining convenience, strong terrain access, and high-quality lodging into a polished, modern base that rivals any major resort.

Visited Eagle Lodge on a Saturday afternoon, and it was extremely crowded. The lift lines were very long, and the area was packed with people. It’s a popular spot, so be prepared for some waiting if you come on a weekend. Unfortunately, it was closed on Sunday, which was disappointing as we had planned for more time on the slopes. The location itself is beautiful, and the facilities are well-maintained, but the high crowd levels and limited availability can be a downside. Plan ahead and check their schedule if you’re visiting.

Granddaughters age 8 & 12 experienced their first time on skis with a lesson with the Eagle lodge instructor and it was just a great day for them both! We couldn't have asked for a better first experience for them! They were on the ski lift the next day!

A fun little center with plently of shops and stores. A nice little fire place in the middle to warm up in the winter too. Many places to eat and get some snacks as well. A ski and snowboard rental spot is here too.

Great place to stay especially if you have friends or family learning how to ski or snowboard. The six pack Eagle chairlift gives you access to great beginner intermediate terrain.

Fun and absolutely worth it overall. I did have a small negative experience at the Mammoth Lakes rental shop, though. One of the staff members was really unhelpful. Since it was my first time, I was struggling with the boots and snowboard, and he basically brushed me off as if it wasn’t his problem. That said, there were other people at the same place who were genuinely kind and helped me right away, so it was clearly just that one person. The instructors at the school were also very supportive and even gave me a few free tips. If you’re a first-timer, I’d strongly recommend practicing on the less steep slopes first, at the school (it's free as long as you don't take any lessons). If it’s your first time, don’t rush into buying a lift ticket before you actually try snowboarding. YouTube definitely gives false confidence. You might also want to consider skiing instead, since it’s much easier to pick up. And if you book snowboarding lessons, you can switch to skiing anytime without extra cost. Finally, if you have a car, consider renting your gear from shops in town rather than the Mammoth Lakes rental locations right next to the lifts. My friend saved 30 dollars on the exact same gear by doing that.

Come to mammoth every snow season. This area probably has the most easy runs, lots of parking and lodges in the area. Place to eat and clean restrooms. Staff is always amazing no matter what lodge you go to. Will return and always recommend.

Closest lodge to town...not in the village. Quiet surrounding area, kids ski hill or beginners slope. Close to tamarack nordic ski area. Can get to canyon easily from top of lift. On the bike path loop with great views of Mammoth crest. Still in the big blimp tent but plans for a village here in the next 10 yrs Cons: parking is slim so get there early or plan on parking in the road and please please don't park in no parking zones - tow tickets in Mammoth are weak sauce. And $$$ for food- reference $5 for an apple juice
